TTL:

Below is a timeline of the certifications I am pursuing in my journey as a Cloud Enginner. The list includes a total of 18 certifications I plan to attain in 30 months. As part of the Cloud Computing curriculum, WGU includes 12 unique certifications that serve as a final exam for the associated course. This list includes 11 of those.

You may have noticed I am one short. The program includes the LPI Linux Essentials certification. I decided to get the higher certification, Linux+ as it is a more robust certification.

The remaining 6 are certifications that I felt would be highly valuable in my career. The knowledge required for the certifications is covered, at least in part, throughout the BSCC program, though not in enough depth to warrant a certification. So, I am supplementing the program, aligning my Self Study topics with relevant WGU courses. Basically, taking what WGU offers and going a bit farther.

For example: WGU offers 3 courses on scripting and programming- Scripting & Programming Foundations, Introduction to Python, and Web Development Foundations. Taken together, there is some overlap and an obvious common thread, but no associated certification. So, I decided to enroll in the "100 Days of Python" course on Udemy by Dr Angela Yu. This, combined with the WGU courses should be sufficient to earn the PCAP Python Associate Certificate from the Python Institute.

The WGU program tops out at the AWS Associate level. Based on the AWS Cloud Engineer Path, I plan to go farther. I want to earn the AWS DevOps Engineer Professional certification and with it, become a fully qualified AWS Cloud Engineer.
